Das Schulterblatt ist ein dreiseitiger, platter Knochen. Es stellt zusammen mit dem Schlüsselbein den Schultergürtel dar. Es besitzt eine Vielzahl an knöchernen Strukturen. Das Schulterblatt befindet sich dorsal am Thorax und ist komplett in Muskeln eingelagert. Diese Muskulatur bildet die Verbindung zum [[Special:MyLanguage/Rumpf|Rumpf]]. Am Schulterblatt wird das [[Special:MyLanguage/Humeroskapulargelenk|Schultergelenk]] an der Verbindungsstelle zum Oberarmknochen gebildet. Über das [[Special:MyLanguage/Akromioklavikulargelenk|Akromioklavikulargelenk]] artikulieren Schulterblatt und Schlüsselbein miteinander.
In Normalposition erstreckt sich das Schulterblatt von der zweiten bis zur siebten Rippe. Der Angulus inferior befindet sich auf Höhe des Dornfortsatzes der siebten Rippe. Die Spina scapulae befindet sich auf der Höhe des Dornfortsatzes des dritten Lendenwirbels.
